Attendance Policy
Attendance Policy
Daily school attendance is essential for student success. Consistent attendance allows students to grasp key concepts and stay on track with the curriculum. Additionally, school funding is directly tied to student attendance. Frequent or extended absences will be reported to the principal and, if necessary, the county Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).
If a student will be absent for a vacation, parents/guardians may request a travel study to help them keep up with classwork (see details below).
Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent, please notify the office through one of the following methods:
- Online: Complete the attendance reporting form.
- Phone: Call 916-434-5255 (leave a message if outside office hours).
- Email: Contact our Attendance Clerk.
- ParentSquare: Reply to the absence notification sent around 10:30 AM.
- Written Note: Send a signed note with your student when they return.
Parents/guardians have three days to clear absences. If not reported within this timeframe, absences will be marked as unexcused.
Travel Study
Students who will be absent from school for travel may be eligible for Travel Study. This program allows students to receive attendance credit by completing assigned coursework during their absence. Please contact the office for Travel Study Requests.
Requirements:
- A Travel Study Contract must be signed by the parent/guardian, teacher, and administrator.
- Teachers will provide assignments, which must be completed and returned on the first day back to receive attendance credit.
- Requests for Travel Study must be submitted at least five school days before the planned absence to allow time for preparation. If the request is completed less than five days before it can be denied.
Important Notes:
- Students may receive attendance credit for up to 15 days per school year. Absences beyond 15 days do not qualify for attendance credit.
- Travel Study is not available during the first or last two weeks of the school year.
- Travel Study requests may be denied if the student in not in good academic standing, has chronic absences or has not successfully complete previous travel studies.
